Gap Killer / Silence Detection
Will Live365 be incorporating a "Gap Killer" anytime soon... those couple seconds of dead air can really hurt a station's listening viewer count as listeners may log off.. Im pretty content with live's scheduling and autodj software but a gap killer would make it even more better without having to use a 3rd party automation software! Please Get Us A GAP KILLER!!!

Steven MergedI'd love to see AutoDJ recognize when we go from live to autodj. It most of the time has a very "jerky" sound and then usually starts in the middle of a random song. I think it is jarring for the listener

Philip Admin MergedWe've received lots of feedback about this recently, and would like to devise a mechanism to make these transitions easier. One of the issues is that AutoDJ is designed to always run in the background so that the listeners never hear silence if the LiveDJ session happens to fail. There is a 30 to 45 second delay between when a track starts playing and when the listener hears it. If a LiveDJ session disconnected due to a power outage or Internet issue, then the listener would hear silence.

Spencer MergedIf possible, I would like to see auto fade added when a DJ goes live, and also have the stream auto fade in when they disconnect. Currently the song playing just stops which I would assume seems odd for the listeners.

DennelThis was one of the complaints I recently issued to you guys. To me it would seem like a "common sense" issue not
to have "Gaps" in between tracks because it doesn't make the station sound professional. And for the reasons
"Mixx 716" described. -

SakeBitoA flipside: I may be an oddball, but I hate crossfading and I add silence to both the start and finish of each song. Every person has his own style, but to me it's about respect for art. Every second of a song is integral to it IMO, and plastering one on top of another is unthinkable - a couple seconds' silence between songs is a needed "gear shift".

Lindsey Alexander (Mr.)most definitely please!...Makes a smoother sound to the overall performance.... 'dead air' sounds less professional. Thank you.

Mike K MergedSuggesting increasing or providing customization options for the default 10 seconds fallback to AutoDJ time when a Live365 station is running from a relay source. Currently, if the relay streams silence for 10 seconds, the source will fall back to AutoDJ which is not ideal in my use case.
It would be ideal to have the option to customize the time it takes for a silent relay source to cause a fallback on the AutoDJ source.
The relay reconnection time once the source gets out of silence should also be configurable. Currently, it can take up to 2 minutes to retry the connection. -

KevinThe problem with a "gap killer" is this: how much "gap" are you talking about between songs? 1 second? 2 or 3? Which number does Live365 pick? Then what about songs that have a second or 2 or 3 somewhere in the track? You can see what would happen. The best way IMO to eliminate "gaps" is to trim your songs and use the crossfade option. That would give you MUCH more control over your broadcast than a generic "gap killer".

Mike K MergedAt a minimum, reducing the 2 minute wait before trying to re-connect would be very helpful. The default should be more like try to reconnect every 5 seconds.
-

Mike K MergedIt is an absolutely trivial software change to reduce the default retry time to 5 seconds instead of 2 minutes. For 2 minutes, listeners hear whatever song is playing on the Live365 AutoDJ, and then in the middle of that song, it switches back to the relay.
If anything, why not send an email to the handful of customers using the relay feature and ask them whether a 2-minute delay before trying to reconnect is something they desire? Please consider making the simple software change to reduce the delay as soon as possible. -

John MergedThis would be great! As someone who switches from AutoDJ to LiveDJ it just sounds so unprofessional. Having an "auto-crossfade" between the current track and our opening live track would make it sound SO much better. To have the same feature crossfade out back to AutoDJ would be helpful as well. I'm sure it will still come back in the middle of a song but it will at least sound less abrupt!

MK MergedThe most important aspect of this "design flaw fix request" is to allow us to reduce the hard-coded 2 minute delay before trying to reconnect to the source (whether the disconnect occurred from silence or from a network drop event). The default should be more like 5 seconds and not 2 minutes!
Btw, adding support for "HLS streams for ingest" would mostly eliminate these unprofessional sounding 2 minute outages. The main advantage of HLS audio streaming is that it "provides a mechanism for players to seamlessly reconnect and download missed audio, so that a short loss of connectivity or bandwidth will not disrupt playback". It's the ideal technology for relays. -

Chris MergedPlease add this asap if possible because I am in development of a program and I can rely on live365 to play music when not LiveDJ then I would not have to have LiveDJ on 24 hours a day. Thanks!

Brian Chenkus MergedCurrently when "Strict" timing is selected when creating an event AutoDJ makes a hard transition into the event. The same when a live stream is started. Is there a way of fading the AutoDJ to stop before starting the event or stream? Can this be done during buffering?

The Feline 99.9A "gap killer" or "smart overlap" would improve the auto DJ experience. I really get irritated when a song fades to silence, even with crossfade set to overlap a bit. When a song has a fadeout, I would like hear next track just before the current track fades completely. Station automation software such as Sam Broadcaster Has settings to remove "silence" from beginning and ending of tracks and you can set the dB threshold so that the track starts/ends at a level that makes sense for bit of overlap--I use -50 dB--so there is not complete silence between songs. The next song or other content (promos, ads, IDs) begins when the current song has a fadeout and reaches that pre-set dB level as it reaches the end. There is also an option to "trigger end of song" if there is x seconds (I use 15s) of silence detected. Also allowing to enable or disable gap killer function on a track by track basis is also supported, you know, for those weird tracks with intentional "dead air".

Joseph Audia MergedIf an advertisement is playing and the station happens to drop out for a second due to let's say cell reception was poor or it was switching back and forth from WiFi and the cellular network, you no longer hear the same ad as before and you hear the PSA instead, this could be improved so that the listener still hears the same ad that was already playing. A long time ago with the Shoutcast platform and ad break triggers I was still able to hear the same ad even if the stream cut out at the time it was playing.

Shawn Minisall Admin MergedIt's important to note that there are other considerations outside of Live365's control if the connection is interrupted such as if you get assigned to another cell tower which will then report a different location. Our Ad Insertion Technology is based on the reported location of the listener which can very greatly with mobile technologies.

JerryThe time between tracks is awful. Some of my users complain about it. Some songs will start nicely others will take 3-5 seconds. You guys need to fix that. Your cross fade options are awful
